Learning to speak through the tears and state what I feel vs stuffing it inside

Insightful ideas and discussions with my facilitator have helped me to learn to understand my reactions to my spouse’s death. By implementing some of the methods explained to me, I hope to do more healing from my loss and letting go of pain and hurt.

It has helped me to acknowledge and release my loss and the feelings that I had held onto following the breakdown of my birth family after the death of my mother.

Barb was amazing. I cannot thank her enough. She took all my stories with compassion and provided guidance in places where I was stuck. Barbs vulnerability of her own story also helped me be vulnerable with my group. She took my story with so much care in her hands. She is awesome. I appreciate the confidentiality aspects where she ensured that privacy was mandatory for each of us. I also liked her instructions on how and why we had to be honest with ourselves going into the program. My favourite thing about Barb is the light hearted jokes she would make to also show us that she too, just like everyone, has experienced loss.

Mary Hawkins was the most gentle, compassionate guide who helped make this process feel easy and natural. I felt safe and listened to throughout and knew that I could trust Mary to hold space for me to heal in a deep and profound way that went beyond all the years of therapy and other attempts at resolving this difficult issue.

I appreciated how committed Heather was to my growth and understanding. She was patient when I wanted to rush through the initial steps and get right to work. She helped me understand that the steps come in order for a reason and that I would soon have all of the keys to recovery. She was so encouraging and supportive as I put my heart into my homework. It was a pleasure to have her as my guide!

Our program ran from may9/24 to june 27/24 for 2 hrs on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30. It was a long time frame to sit and stay focussed on the same topic. I personally feel the agenda time could be shortened by a 1/2 hour. I havent actually digested all the ideas that were presented or understand if they have assisted in my grief journey at this point but I believe I am a better LISTENER.
