At one point I held back and she pushed me gently and it worked for me. I ended the program feeling more complete and more satisfied. It was a good group to work in.

As I spoke with my facilitator I was against the word "grief" not really understand why the word bothered me so much but after taking the class, my facilitator explain to me because I correspond the word grief with death and how I was raised to believe the word grief goes with death.and nothing else so that made sense to me. Bertha is very genuine when it comes to others and their feelings my group was very understanding and when I say there was no judgement here honestly I can say there was no judgement at all.

It let me see and work on my relationship with my mom.

This class helped me to really open up and share my feelings of loss and grief and to allow myself to be more vulnerable. I've also learned how to recognize and not fall prey to unattainable expectations about myself or others. I do feel better now when I remember my dad than I did before taking this class. Thank you!

I learned a lot about grief in general but also about my own personal grief. I am better able to understand and empathize with others who are grieving and my experience has helped me grow and overcome challenges with close relationships.

I enjoyed it very much. I learned a lot. But h it still hasn't helped me with missing my husband and crying. Also figuring out how to survive with out my husband.

Outstanding. As a cancer survivor, going through a divorce as well as the death and loss of my mom, life and grief and loss became too much for me handle on my own. My mental health was suffering. I followed dr's advice and took prescribed medications for years, but was not getting better. After many years with the same dr I decided to look for someone new because I didn't feel my needs/care were being met to my satisfaction. I sought out a new dr, found Dr. Tannis Spencer who guided me and suggested I try the program offered by Susan Malek at the Willow Family Medicine in Edmonton, Alberta. I had 1 in person appt before Covid19 struck and then we switched to virtual appts. I had little faith in myself that this program would work for me, but Susan is so confident and empathetic I felt I couldn't let her down by not investing the work in the program. Each appt was a lot of work, reading and preparing, making notes, taking time to think about things and events in my life. Each and every appt I made progress. I was surprised and pleased and encouraged. I started the program thinking I needed to focus on the sadness I still felt about my divorce and separation and my ex-husband. About half way through I realized that it wasn't my ex-husband I needed to deal with here but it was my relationship with my father. I put the work in, it was painful, but I feel so much better. I am extremely grateful to the program and for my chance to work it and for my relationship with Susan Malek.

I feel like I gained a whole new way of managing grief and the skills to listen. The facilitator showed great empathy which made space for me to open up. It was well worth the work I put in that will be paying dividends into the future. Thanks!

I was able to learn some behaviors that I need to adjust to learn how to readapt at life. However I felt many of the examples in the book were basic and juvenile. I also didn't agree with some of the concepts (no stages in grief). However, I've also considered that I'm not ready to process, or complete, and accept the loss of my husband yet.
