My name is Frank Wyatt, and I live in the Dayton, Ohio area, near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn. I went to Grief Recovery Specialist training with the idea of helping clients who have been in prison or are facing legal issues. However, during the training, I discovered how grief had affected me in ways I hadn't realized. This was the most impactful training I've ever attended. I discovered unresolved grief within myself and realized how damaging it had been in my life.
What is Grief?
Grief is the normal and natural reaction to change or loss of any kind. It's the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior.
About Me
I have close to 30 years of experience in Community Corrections. In my current position, I teach life skills, goal setting, and problem-solving. I'm also an ordained minister (since 1993).
I've experienced many forms of loss: my father, ex-wife, friends, and family members who overdosed. I've also witnessed clients overdose and die. Last year, my 32-year-old sister-in-law passed away, leaving behind a husband and three children. In my personal life, I've gone through divorce and broken relationships.
What I've Learned
Through my training, I discovered there are over 40 types of grief. I understand that everyone experiences grief differently. I won't tell you how you feel—you already know. And I won't say, "I know how you feel," because I don't. Neither does anyone else. At best, we remember how we felt when we experienced our own losses.
How I Can Help
I would love to work with you and help you with some action steps to deal with your grief.
