What do I know about loss? How did I get to the Grief Recovery Method?
My daughter Caitlyn, died fighting leukemia her 2nd time in 2017. I had a terrible time trying to find the right place to go to get help. One time I went to a grief meeting and it ended up being for older people who lost their spouse. It was a comedy of errors just to find that. I struggled for a while. I married my 3rd wife in late 2018 and we made a plan to travel. In September of 2021, we bought a shuttle bus and converted it to a camper and we became full time nomads. We have been visiting National Parks and I have been scattering some of my daughters ashes along the way.
In the middle of the Arizona desert I discovered the Grief Recovery Method book. I felt the impact of it and I knew I had to become a specialist and help others.
Losing my daughter was one of many losses, when I was 7 my grandmother was babysitting me and she died on the hallway floor from a massive heart attack in front of me. This impacted me for decades! I have had 2 divorces, gone thru bankruptcy and job losses as well. In my first year of marriage to my 1st wife, I graduated college, got a job, had my first child and buried my 42 year old mother in law. Eight years later I buried my father in law. I have been thru many losses and have many experiences, I can tell you that having the GRM method then would have changed my life.
I am from NW Indiana and the Greater Chicago area. I work with One on One, Groups and Helping Children with loss. As a dad who lost a daughter and I can relate to the loss of a child. My goal is to help anyone I can, whether loss of spouse, child, divorce or whatever has impacted you.
