Grief on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving grief family sadness holiday traditions grief loss not alone

This table has been the heart of our family Thanksgivings for years—a place where we laughed, shared gratitude, and indulged in way too much food.

Now everything feels different since my dad died and this is no longer our family home.

Practicing the Grief Recovery Method doesn’t mean we don’t feel sadness, miss my dad deeply, or wish he could be here. It does mean, however, that we embrace those feelings instead of avoiding them. It means we can acknowledge our pain while still being present in the moment to enjoy the holiday.

Because of this work, I don’t carry regrets about unspoken words or missed opportunities with my dad. Even though this holiday is challenging, I know it’s okay to honor the traditionsor to adapt them if we choose. I can show up for my kids, allowing space for their emotions too. And though my heart is broken, I don’t feel trapped in a nightmare anymore.

If Thanksgiving feels heavy for you, that’s okay. Grief can make these moments hard, but it doesn’t have to define every holiday forever. My wish for you is peace, and if you’re still searching for it, I’d love to help.

You don’t have to face this alone. If you’re open to healing your heart this season, please reach out—I’d be honored to walk this journey with you.
