Hi, my name is Emily Garlick and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who discovered I had a passion and desire to help people deal with grief when I experienced major life transitions that simultaneously brought loss while introducing a new chapter in my life. In our lives, we experience loss regularly. Loss of a job, loss of a loved one, loss of an identity. If people do not fully process their losses, they end up looking at the world through a lens of grief. Grief is not permanent. It is a normal, natural reaction to loss, and the Grief Recovery Method (GRM) is the most powerful process I have found in helping clients work through their losses.
As a therapist, I have worked with hundreds of individuals that have experienced losses due to injury, accidents, family tragedy and unfortunate circumstances, and in every case, by working through a 7-8 week process, a genuine sense of completeness is possible. Grief is the result of unsaid communication related to loss, and GRM provides the chance to communicate what needs to be said.
My academic and professional career have taken me from completing a BA in History from the University of Southern California (USC), an MA in History from the University of Chicago and an MSW back at USC. Along the way I have lived in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, and Denver, and worked in various roles at Disney, RAINN, The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), and in startups. My private practice as a therapist and work with the Grief Recovery Method is focused on helping individuals feel whole again. It is possible!
