Hello! My name is Cynthia Akins. I stumbled upon the Grief Recovery Method after a series of losses left me, not only in despair, but also more cognizant of pain in others. An unexpected career shift set in motion multiple changes in my life which, at the time, I did not acknowledge as losses. I see now that I was grieving.

After being in the ministry for six years, I was laid off. I moved multiple times and earned my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. During this time, unknown chronic health issues plagued my husband and two daughters. After years of research, doctor’s visits, and surgeries, I am just now understanding the reason for the heath complications in my family. My husband and daughters have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder, which results in a host of problems.

Finding the Grief Recovery Method has not only enabled me to come to terms with certain losses from my childhood but also be in touch with the losses brought about by changing careers and witnessing my family’s health plummet. It has allowed me to label my experiences as losses which has been so validating. Additionally, it has equipped me to empower others who are hurting, which I love to do.

It has been a gift to be able to share what I have learned with others and see them confront their pain and grow through it.
