Hello and thank you for visiting my site. My name is Jeannie Hostetter and I have always had a deep passion for helping others.

My relationship with grief began at a very early age. It was Thanksgiving weekend, 1977, when ten year old me went to wake up my mother only to find she had passed away in her sleep. This childhood trauma followed me, hidden away as unresolved grief, throughout my entire life. In an attempt, I presume, to protect me as a young child, the events of that horrible day were never spoken of again. Quietly, I grieved my mother every single day but could not put a voice to what I was feeling. This unresolved grief and childhood trauma shaped much of my future and was often the underlying component to some poor choices and perhaps not so good decisions.

My fascination with the silence surrounding grief lead me to a most fulfilling 15 year career in the funeral industry. It was a great honour to serve families during their darkest times and journey beside them in the hours, days and sometimes weeks following their loss. I always felt, however, that there had to be more that could be done for these families. I would often hear of the struggles grievers would face as the visits and phone calls slowed or stopped and they watched as others returned to their daily routines. They would say they felt "stuck" and didn't think they could ever enjoy life again.

In 2018 I left the funeral industry to peruse a different career path. Grief continued to call me back and I knew my work in this area was far from over. I began to see in the workplace and in the community the effects of unresolved grief and incomplete relationships. That is when I found the Grief Recovery Method and knew I was meant to be a Specialist. Going through the Method during the training was a life changing experience.

As a heart with EARs, I will listen to you without judgement and encourage you to open up in the safe space to speak about your feelings of loss. If you are willing to work with me, I walk and talk you through the same effective process that I too have been through, as I wouldn’t ask you to do anything that I hadn’t already done myself and found to be successful.
