My name is Cheryl Martin, and I am a resident of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Almost 20 years ago, I loss my premature infant son, Colin, who was hospitalized in the NICU for over 3 months. Subsequently, Colin had numerous complications which resulted in him passing. His loss impacted me so much that I decided that part of my life's work would be to go out and help other's navigate through this difficulty journey. The worst thing in the world is to go through a traumatic experience such as I had and realize their is no one to talk to or understand your pain. Many people believe that once you give birth to a child and lose your child, you should just move on. I am hear to tell you that that the fact you loss a child does matter. It is my intention to help you through your loss. If you have experienced a loss of an infant through sudden infant death syndrome, miscarriage, prematurity, etc. you are in the right place. I am a member of the Parent Infant Loss Society, OWN network, and I work collaboratively with other parent's in hosting an annual Wave of Light Ceremony in Cuyahoga County, Ohio each year which is a candlelight vigil to honor our babies we have loss. I have worked in public service for more than 28 years, holding a BA (Sociology/Criminology), MSSA from Case Western Reserve University, featured in National Geographic "Black mother's grieve the babies they lost" and a short film documentary Risk Factor."
