In 2016, my husband was diagnosed with ALS - a disease with no hope of survival. As a mother, wife and next of kin, it became my most important task to take care of our two daughters throughout Jan's illness. Tell them the truth about the disease and prepare them for the death of their father. But at the same time protect them as much as possible and maintain their childhood and the belief that life is good - even when it is not.
During my husbands illness and after he passed away in 2018, I decided to dedicate my life to help others, who have suffered a loss. A friend recommended me to look at The Grief Recovery Method, and it resonated so well with me, that I signed up to become certified the same day.
In April 2021, on the 3 year anniversary of my husbands death, I published my book “When dad dies – a story about when illness strikes, and advice for helping children who are grieving” (only available in Danish). It is important for me to be able to help both adults and children – the whole family. I know from my own experience, how lost you can feel as a parent, when your children are hurt because they are suffering a loss and are grieving. You are probably grieving yourself!
With the different programs in The Grief Recovery Method, you can get help with your own loss, and you can learn how to support children as a parent, a teacher or anyone else, who are close to a child, that suffered a loss.
