My name is Jacqueline Matthews and I am a licensed medical social worker with Companion Hospice in San Antonio, TX. I have worked in hospice for the last 5 years and that is how I was introduced to the Grief Recovery method. While in graduate school, I interned at a hospice organization. Part of our curriculum was the 8-week grief group so we could experience the bereavement services being offered to our patient's families. I went in skeptical, not really seeing how this could help me because I considered myself emotionally stable. I had lost grandparents and ended relationships, none of which compared to the grief I was seeing in my patient's homes. During those 8-weeks I learned a lot about myself, how I process my emotions, and areas where I needed to work on myself. The GRM really opened my eyes and was the first step in a lifelong journey to help others. Grief is my area of expertise and while that might sound strange, I have a passion for working with those who have suffered loss and helping people "complete" their grief, so they are left with only happy memories.
Brene Brown (research social worker and my idol) defines vulnerability as "having the courage to show up when you can't control the outcome". Grief work can be difficult and complete relationships, you have to be vulnerable. The grief recovery method helps you work through your vulnerability and really can change your life! I provide 1-1 sessions as well as 8-week group sessions and will offer 4-week, second sessions in the future. I am also available to teach you how to talk to children about grief and group sessions specific to grieving the loss of a pet. I am based out of San Antonio, TX. Can't wait to speak with you about your journey.
