Hello,
Even though I’m considered a senior citizen, I thought my fairly active lifestyle and progressive live-in-the-present outlook on life would help me get through anything life might send my way. That was until my wife and partner for more than 40 years was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was told she had less than a year to live.
Zoe-Anne was a nurse/educator, and dealt with death and dying frequently since I met her, so she was able to somewhat prepare me for life after she was gone, but knowing what was coming couldn’t prepare me for the total emptiness and lack of direction and purpose I felt. I wasn’t suicidal, but I couldn’t think of any good reasons to continue either. Fortunately, Zoe-Anne warned me to be careful, and not do anything rash after she died. She said it would take time to adjust to my new life – but I didn’t want a new life, and that was the problem. Fortunately, she made me promise to stay healthy so I would be able to care for and outlive our two cats. They are my blessing every day now.
After she passed, I read her clinical books about death, dying, and grieving, and after a few months of solitude, I went to a widows and widowers Meetup Group at a restaurant, where someone mentioned the Grief Recovery Method (GRM). I started doing research on the Method and discovered it was evidence-based and proven to be effective, but the thing that I really liked, was that its way of doing things was right in line with what I was reading in the latest clinical books, and online, about the best ways to treat people needing help with their grief.
I decided that my life was at a turning point, and I had to decide what I wanted to do with it, so I decided to do the Method, and also take the course to become a GRM Specialist, so I could help other people who were struggling with unresolved emotional loss.
My GRM training taught me that my natural ability as a kind, compassionate, and non-judgmental listener makes me a ideal person to walk alongside people as they work through their GRM program.
The Grief Recovery Institute has discovered and refined the tools to help people identify and recovery from their own unresolved emotional wounds, and they teach the Specialists to basically just get out of the way, encourage the client, and let the program work, and it does.
So if you’re having any kind of lingering emotional pain, and you’re willing to try a 7 or 8 week course of action to alleviate your suffering, taking the Grief Recovery Method, accompanied by a Certified Specialist, just might be for you.
I am certified to do One-on-One and Group GRM sessions, In-Person and Online.
I am also certified to do Pet Loss sessions.
I would love to hear from you and set up a Free In-Person, or Zoom meeting, to tell you more about the GRM program, and answer any questions you might have.
I encourage you to talk to a number of Specialists and find someone that feels like a good fit for you. We all have the same basic training, but when working with someone about important emotional issues, a good connection helps.
