I now have knowledge on how to help my children cope with their grief, and how to help them through their real feelings! I know what to say in situations OR just sit and listen to their feeling without talking! I learned Not to replace the loss with other things! I am now equipped to help my own children with difficult situations in life that no one seems to want to talk about. I am looking forward to helping my children with the difficulties of life, instead of only looking forward to the happy & good times!

The program facilitator was Bryan Hutton, he was very knowledgeable and was able to explain in detail in areas where i needed more examples and further explanation. Bryan showed professionalism whilst being emphatic.

The program allowed me to reflect back on how people viewed and spoke about lost and how when done differently we get different results.

I have used the Grief Recovery Method on myself before with a Clinical Psychologist. I have experienced multiple bereavements in a short space of time and this course helped me to navigate further discussion with my children, all of whom have different methods of dealing with grief and loss of the same people. I have been able to use some of the tools learnt on the course within my personal and professional settings and have noticed the benefits.

The program ('it') helped me look at grief in a completely different way (vs only a death). The "never ask for forgiveness" was another concept that I now look at in a completely different/better way ("make an apology instead"). It helped me remember things and those things were ones that gave be a more balanced view of the other person. It led me to a place where I could see my role in the situation with clarity - and to accept the Grace available to me so that I could heal more and judge less. It also taught me new/better ways of communication with others and strengthened my empathy for myself; showing me that I also needed to forgive and love myself as well at the other. Understanding my STERBs not looking at them as faults but rather as something I can change if I really want to (these STERBs do not control me, they work but only short term which is not good enough for me, and so if I really want what I say I want I can work towards lessening the hold they have on me (one little step at a time). Another big step was validation of the truth that we are the architects of our own discomfort (something I knew but didn't understand the degree in which it actually is a broader truth vs. a hunch, and that I have more control over changing it than I had been willing to acknowledge). I learned that if you discount it you have given yourself the okay to be a victim vs. the author of your healing. Learning the difference between Guilt and wishing things could have been Different, Better, or More (and recognizing them as tools to help bring visibility to what is incomplete). And it's very interesting that this attitude of responsibility for our own feelings and actions starts with very early "influence learning". It's a way to get stuck, not a way to release what chokes us. The program opened my eyes to Cumulative Loss and the effects on my health and happiness. It is a great reminder to share positive thoughts and feelings as they occur vs. waiting until it is too late. And lastly release the need to fix yourself and others - be willing to go through the process and allow others to do the same (we are all unique).

I have only briefly tried to apply these learnings as our class recently finished. The program opened my eyes to things that I had not considered. It helped reframe how I thought about certain things. The first time I read about a couple of the ideas I wasn't in agreement and so I questioned them and even after the answer was given I still wasn't sure, however by the end of the course and having read the book and done the work I was convinced. I have a new and I believe better perspective that will help me be a better teach for children and a better person overall. e.g. knowing that I don't need to "fix it" is a huge relief. Confirming things I already believe and try to practice e.g. listening with love and kindness gave me confidence and flexibility to absorb and practice new/different ideas. Of particular importance are the foundational tools: Emotional Energy Checklist and "Letter". These tools will help ensure that I stay of track with the best way to help children. Lastly, this class led me to sign up for The Grief Recovery Method course which I believe will help me help children better because I will soon be in a better place myself.

It has helped me use more appropriate language, ask open ended questions. I think I am a better listener. I love the checklist and have already used it. It created a great atmosphere to get to know my peers better. Facilitated open and honest communication. Gave me tools to use with kids and parents. Clarified issues I had with personal loss. Provided resources I can share with co-workers.

This program has helped in various aspects of my job; furthermore, I feel this program has helped enter act with co-workers, student, and my family when it comes to grief. I learned that grief is not only a death that it also can be a divorce, move, or even a change in family.

The program allowed me to look at the way I deal with grief as well as how I talk to others about grief. I now ask students more questions about their loss and I allow them the time to speak their thoughts and concerns. I watch my wording when discussing loss with a student. I no longer say it willbe ok or it is for the better.

The timing of this course was perfect in my situation. I was asked by the counselors at my school to attend to help but then ended up loosing my mom less than a month before this class started. That added an interesting take on the course and ended up helping me through my grief.
