Hi, I'm Candace. I am glad you are visiting The Grief Recovery Method site. I discovered GRM after the death of my husband. Although my occupation as an estate-planning attorney and certified life & business/executive coach meant I had a lot of experience with people who were grieving different types of losses (of a loved one, of their autonomy due to a disability, or loss of their relationship with a family member, I struggled for a long time to cope with my husband's death.
To the outside world, I maintained the facade that I was OK. And on some levels, I believed that was true; at least I wasn't crying all of the time anymore. During the day I went to work and did my normal work duties. But when I got home, I just crawled into bed and stayed there until morning, binge-watching movies and eating Klondikes--numb and unable or unwilling to feel the depth of my sadness.
Besides my husband, I had no family members locally and, except for one friend who was widowed a month before me, I hesitated to share my persistent grief with others. As someone whose job it is to use her brain skills to solve problems for others, I couldn't understand why I couldn't solve this. What I didn't know then but learned through my GRM experience was that grief isn't a broken head problem, it is a broken heart problem.
I am stronger as a result of the GRM experience with better insights and coping skills. Rather than looking back on my time with my husband through a cloud of pain and tears, I can enjoy my memories of him. I also think the Method taught me how to be a better estate-planning attorney and life-business-executive coach as well as a friend to those who are grieving losses and other changes in their lives. These are just some of the reasons I am committed to sharing The Grief Recovery Method with others.
