Phil lives and works in the Rolla, Missouri area primarily, and is advanced certified to work online with grievers anywhere. He received his initial training as a Grief Recovery Method Specialist in 2010, and immediately began offering classes for groups.
As a retired hospital chaplain, Phil brings over 18 years of experience in grief and loss with patients and families in often the hardest times of their lives. In addition, he worked for eight years as a hospice chaplain, which gave him greater insight into the effects of loss on those in the last chapter of their lives, as well as their families and friends. He spent many hours with patients and families facing critical health-related decisions, and with those who faced life-altering losses caused by trauma or illness. During his last two years as chaplain, he was part of the care team, up-close and personal, of COVID-19 patients and families. The sheer volume of death and grief exceeded any previous experience, and he felt the effects on himself and all healthcare staff. His previous experiences can also be read in the following book, available in Kindle version on Amazon.
As seen on YouTube segments with the medical center where he formerly worked, he can address various aspects of loss and trauma as they relate to all parts of life.

His own losses of parents and grandparents, among other family members has given him experience of losing loved ones through death. In addition, divorce brought him loss of hopes and dreams and loss of stability. Loss of jobs and career through health issues have resulted in losses of trust and finances. Both tangible and intangible losses accumulated to bring about the need for an action-oriented program to regain the ability to live life with fond memories and hope for the future. As a disabled veteran whose career ended early due to service-conneced health issues, he understands the grief and loss of health changes, and losses of career, identity and security.
He also has seen how tragedies affect children throughout their lives, and feels strongly about our Helping Children With Loss program. He can lead adults through the ways to help children learn to deal with grief in a healthy way, and avoid some of the destructive patterns that lead to lifelong heartaches.
He also has experience in working with individuals in addiction rehabilitation who are dealing with grief issues, and who see the connection between their grief and the destructive behaviors that can result. He has earned the trust of those who administer those programs.
He is ready and equipped to walk you through from confusing pain and burden to completion and happier memories. Your life is more than your pain. Now available to work online, he can be reached from wherever you are.
