‘Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss’.
Like many, I am no stranger to profound losses throughout my life. Aged just 16, my wonderful mother died, after a five-year battle with cancer.
Paralysed by shock, I was unable to walk into the hospital room to say our last goodbyes. Instead, I fled.
The pain and loss cast long shadows for decades.
Sadly, I received another devastating blow when I suffered complications while giving birth to my beautiful daughter.
Ongoing health problems left me unable to have more children and ultimately led to two divorces, plus the loss of my career within the emergency services.
In another cruel twist of fate, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, just two weeks after celebrating my 53rd birthday. I received my diagnosis at exactly the same age my mother was, at her time of death.
As part of my recovery from the death of my mother, I completed the 1.1 Grief Recovery Method Programme.
The impact of completing the GRM prgramme was so profound that I went on to become a specialist myself. During the training I was able to work on the loss of my health, alongside other losses I have experienced throughout my life.
The GRM is an evidence and action based educational programme, providing you with the tools for moving beyond the many different types of grief. These include but are not limited to; death, divorce, loss of health, pets, finances, moving or end of addiction. This programme can either be done on a 1:1 basis or in a group. There is also a set programme ‘Helping children with loss’, for schools, talking to teachers and parents in order to help children experiencing loss.
GRM has been a key part of my recovery. The life events I have faced, coupled with my experience and qualifications, have inspired me to work with others to help them overcome their own challenges and from being stuck in their loss
If you feel you would be interested in undertaking the programme with me as your specialist or would like to know more, please feel free to contact me.
