Hi - I'm Tammy - and I found the Grief Recovery Method after years of cumulative trauma and losses. In 2015, my 8yr old son was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. After watching him endure chemotherapy, relapse, a target cell treatment, another relapse, and countless invasive procedures we had spent over 2 years fighting with doctors to consider a misdiagnosis. We finally got them to hear us and he received a new diagnosis of a rare skin lymphoma in children that has left us in a watch & wait scenario with tumor growth. The stress and trauma took it's toll on our family and my daughter was then diagnosed with borderline personality disorder/depression/anxiety/suicidal ideation (by-products of her trauma with our son's diagnosis) and spent time in a mental health hospital for treatment. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and died eight months to the day of his diagnosis in 2019. A friend introduced me to the Grief Recovery Handbook at this time but I just wasn't ready to take the steps I needed to. A few months later covid-19 turned the world upside down and my own mental health was at it's breaking point as I struggled to make sense of my past 5 years and to find purpose and happiness again. I picked up the book, researched the Grief Recovery Institute and decided that I would jump right into the training program. I would go through the program start my own recovery and also get the training to be able to facilitate other's through their grief. I believe with my whole heart that the trauma and losses I've experienced have made me stronger and taught me patience and empathy and I want to share the benefits of this program with as many people as I can. I am offering my services to my local community in Parkland County and Edmonton area in Alberta. I have a specific passion for the grief support groups but also offer grief support 1-1 and look forward to dedicating more time and energy to Helping Children with Loss as this strikes a very personal chord for me and I believe children's well-being through trauma and loss is often overlooked. My professional background is rooted in 20 years as a Registered Massage Therapist where I was dedicated to helping people heal physically and allowing them a safe space to speak their stories of pain, trauma and grief to someone with a listening ear. I bring a lot of lived experience with our medical and mental health systems and have spent countless hours researching and advocating for my family and others that can benefit from what I have learned.
